Setting Up Your Season

  1. Do I have to track all of my crops? Which ones should I track?

    • Absolutely not! You should only track as many crops as you feel able to consistently enter harvest and sales data for. The best crops to track are those that either have the biggest impact on your bottom line (large volumes, long seasons) OR high value, unique crops whose price is difficult to determine.

  2. Do I have to track each separate variety of a crop?

    • Absolutely not! Only separate out the varieties that you want to track.

  3. What if I harvest crops using a different unit of measurement than I use to sell them OR I sell them in multiple ways (pounds and quarts).

  4. What if I don’t know my expected season yield?

    • Don’t worry! You can skip this question and just tell us how much you plan to plant. Don’t know either, don’t worry, they’re not required fields.

  5. Why do you need to know how much I usually sell my crops for?

    • This is the jumping off point for the pricing tool to figure out the most profitable price for your crops. If you don’t enter it, don’t worry, we can still figure out the best price for your crops.

  6. What do you consider a wholesale channel? Is that restaurants and distributors?

    • Yes, any buyer that is NOT the end consumer is a wholesale channel, including restaurants, food hubs, distributors, co-ops, grocers, etc.

  7. Why do you want to know if I include the crop in my CSA? How does this factor in?

    • We’ll track your harvests, but want to take any inventory that’s going to your CSA out of the pricing tool calculation, otherwise, it would look like unsold inventory, which would negatively impact your price.

  8. What if I want to add more crops mid-season?

    • No problem! Just visit Settings, click Crops, and add the new crop. It’ll be available in your Inventory, Sales , and Reports pages immediately.

  9. Why do you need the billing contact’s e-mail address for my wholesale buyers? What if I don’t have it?

    • We’re building a feature that will automatically send an invoice to the buyer when you create a New Sales Record, saving you one extra step. Don’t worry if you don’t have it, but if you’d like the ability to send invoices automatically, it’s worth adding it in.

Pricing Tool

  1. Why does my Recommended price change? Can I just set it at the beginning of the season?
    • You absolutely can, but, in a lot of cases, the optimal price for a single crop will change over the course of the season. Consider what sales look like when the first crops of the season hit the market, and what sales look like three weeks later. These fluctuations take place throughout the season and Cabbige's pricing tool helps you price optimally for these changes.
  2. Why hasn't my recommended price changed from my previous price?
    • Your Recommended price won't always change, and, in some rare cases, may never change. If the Previous price is determined to be optimal, you won't see a change between the Recommended and Previous price.
  3. How does donated inventory impact my pricing recommendation?

    • We interpret donated inventory as unsold. However, the donation can have value for your business as a tax deduction. Check with your accountant on how any deductions could be applied to either state or federal taxes, make sure you get receipts from the organizations that accept your donations, and, at the end of the year, you can download records of all donations in your Reports page.

  4. What happens if I don’t change my prices to the Recommended prices? Does it negatively impact my next recommendation?

    • Absolutely not! The pricing tool makes recommendations, but only uses your actual inputted data to make the daily recommendations. You never have to move your prices, and it will still function properly.

Harvest, Sales & Inventory Questions

  1. Can I enter New Harvest or New Sales Records after the day that they take place? Will this mess up my recommended price or reports?

    • Not at all! Cabbige has a feature for back-dating entries. Simply enter the date on which the Harvest or Sale took place, go back as far as you like, and the information will be factored into your reports and price recommendations.

  2. What happens if I miss a couple of Harvests or Sales?

    • Missing a couple of Harvests or Sales is no big deal! While the pricing tool works best when data is entered consistently, it's designed to easily withstand the realities of a farm, including times that entering data isn't a high priority.

  3. How do I change the view in my Prices/Inventory/Sales pages? I want to sort by the crops with the most inventory/highest price/lowest recommended price.

    • Easy! Click on the arrow next to the column header to sort the list by that crop.

  4. Can I print out or save as PDF a list of the recommended prices for my market staff/list of current inventory/list of recent sales?

    • Absolutely! Look for a button with a cloud icon on each of those pages. Click the button, and it will give you the option to download the information as a PDF or excel document, print it, or copy it.

  5. I made a mistake on one of my entries. Can I change it?

    • Absolutely! We’re building the functionality that will allow you to update any data yourself, but, in the meantime, e-mail us at support@cabbige.com, and we’ll make your updates straight away.

  6. Do I have to delete inventory that wasn’t sold or donated?

    • No, we take care of that. Each crop has a defined perishability window in Cabbige, and we automatically write down the inventory if it has not been sold or donated and goes beyond this window.

  7. How do I write down inventory that wasn’t sold or donated? Like, if I trip and drop a tray of strawberries.

    • We’ve been there, and we made it easy to do! Go to the Inventory page, click New Harvest Record and enter negative entries (ie. -70, -50) for any inventory that was harvested, but not sold, donated, or unsold.

  9. Why are some of my Recommended prices the same as my Previous prices?

    • There isn’t always the indication that a price should move up or down. If the Recommended price remains the same, it simply means that the Previous price was appropriate for this point in the season.

  10. What happens if I don’t change my prices to the Recommended prices? Does it negatively impact my next recommendation?

    • Absolutely not! The pricing tool makes recommendations, but only uses your actual inputted data to make the daily recommendations. You never have to move your prices, and it will still function properly.
